Strippy Scrappy Pincushion Pattern
February 12, 2025

Hi!
I hope you’ve had a good week, and that you found time to make our Strippy Quilted Pillow Cover from last month, as today we’re using the offcuts from that project to make our Strippy Scrappy Pincushion. This pincushion pattern is quick and super easy, and is a good one to have on hand for any stash busting sewing, from any project that has you snowballing corners.
So go find those squares and left overs from last month’s pattern, and let’s get started!
Strippy Scrappy Pincushion Pattern
This is a fun quick project to use up a couple more scrappy blocks! Grab those snowball off cuts and whip up this 15 minute project!
This pincushion measures approx. 4 x 4 inches.
You Will Need:
* The four half square triangle offcuts from your Strippy cushion project, when you snowballed the corners.
* Small amount of plain fabric to contrast, for the pincushion back.
* Stuffing for your pincushion (and if you’re really into using up your scraps, you can always use left over batting to stuff your pincushion with too 🙂 !)
Assembly:
Play around with the arrangement of your four half square triangle units.
You may choose a pinwheel block, or…
…do as we did, and make a pieced scrappy diamond.
Join your squares in pairs, taking care to match the blue points.
Press seams in opposite directions between the pairs.
Join the pairs and press well.
Measure your block and cut a matching square from the plain blue fabric.
Ours was 5½ inches square.
With right sides together, pin and sew around all four sides, making sure to leave half of one side unsewn.
Trim corners and turn right sides out. Tuck in the seam allowances at the gap and press.
Stuff with your toy / pincushion stuffing and hand stitch the gap closed with matching thread.
So cute! Add some pins, and it’s ready to use for your next quilting project!
It’s that easy!!
These are great to make and have on hand for those times when you need a quick gift. Pop one in a mug for a quilty friend, or add a pair of cute scissors, or you could make a basket full to sell at your next Guild show…
Let us know what you think, and Have a wonderful week!
